Information from Ancestry.com: Archibald McMahan and his brothers came from Ireland in 1746, with their parents. His father died on the trip over, and his mother Catherine settled in the area of Augusta Co., VA that soon became Montgomery Co., VA. There the boys were apprenticed, while the mother worked as a housekeeper for David Stuart. Archibald learned Mule Breeding, while James became a Ferrier and Redmon became a Cooper. Another brother John, has recently been located as the husband of Deborah Stockton. Both Deborah and Archibald brought their familiess to Middle Creek in what is now Sevier County, Tennessee in 1784/85 |
